Pyrogens

Pyrogens are bacterial cell wall fragments and can be detected by using a test for lipopolysaccharides (an enzyme found in pyrogens). It is very important to remove pyrogens. If they are injected into mammals, they can cause an increase in temperature, and by doing so can influence research results when scientist uses living subjects. This is also essential for pharmaceutical-grade water as it is used to make vaccines or medicines.
